World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). item upgrading can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a sign of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.
The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This isn't the only thing that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats

Item stats are a big part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
